P Grainger Inspector for the Planning Inspectorate has dismissed two planning appeals for the re-development of the former Maxfield Motors garage site on Lyneham Banks.

The First Appeal against refusal of permission for 13 houses was dismissed as it was against local policy and national advice. Vehicular access arrangements would remain substandard. The development would give rise to hazardous pedestrian movements that are likely to be absent with the current use. Allowing this development would be contrary to the interests of highway safety and not provide any visual improvement by the removal of a commercial use.

The Second Appeal against refusal of permission for 4 houses whilst not unacceptable in principle as it would bring about a reduction in vehicular movements but this is outweighed by the increase in the number of substandard accesses in regular use and a rise in hazardous pedestrian movements.

Therefore both appeals were dismissed.
